Murwillumbah-Sydney by SMS, part one

IMG_2244 The tall SMS tale continues! Below comes a transcript of a messaging conversation with Klara on the way from Murwillumbah to Sydney. It is not a great literary work, but it has its charm {at least one, as I had to type it on the crappy cheap cell phone without Czech dictionary}. And I needn`t think how to put my last hitchhiking weeks in Australia into a story.

IMG_2181 21.12.2007 The first and only today`s lift came out to be a splendid one. I got to a hippie area and I can feel it. Lee took me to his marvelous { em, I am a bit exaggerating, probably under the long-lasting influence of the Anglo-Saxon world} farm. Plenty of fowles, horses, two pythons, five dogs and one parked Hare Krishna cow. Inside many pictures of Krishna Pane and other Hinduism “Chick-chuck Krishnas” {em, I love translating…} The master of the house hitchhiked all the England - Australia way when he was 18, so we found common topics easily.
IMG_2212 22.12.2007 It is 8 pm, I am lying in my tent on the cliffs above Coffs Harbour, East coast, Australia. I am thinking over what to do with the half-spent December and endless phone credit. Credit is easy to deal with through this text message for about 10 people {well done, money deducted, message not delivered}. The December is tougher to deal with, as the hitchhiking works excellent. No grumble, I expected a slower travel. If I tried hard, I would get to Sydney tomorrow or the day after. But the lodging is booked from 28 Dec. So I am pondering how to kill the remaining time. I am creeping along the coast watching frogs and sunsets, I have a swim in the ocean every now and then, sometimes I swim among the supermarket shopping sharks. I usually search a place to pitch a tent in the evenings. I am successful this evening, as a praise, I will have a mango and go to “bed”. Good morning Czecho-Slovakia!
IMG_2275 24.12.2007 I just finished a chocolate roll cake and cookies await me. I slept through the one but last afternoon and night behind Coffs Harbour, near a golf course. I started off yesterday by an hour-long stroll in a supermarket, but then it got better. A quick lift to Sawtell, wading through a river and 7 km of beach just for me{even with a tv set, see the first picture} At the end of this walk I was welcomed by a hippie community. Unfortunately, the 60s are over, and the hippie girls are over 60. So no free love, but volleyball will do too.

Coffs Harbour, Bundagen Head, etc.
