Remembering Chennai

IMG_0459 5 days at Prem`s - a friend of school in Namakkalu. To explain: In 2004, 31 West Bohemia University students went to India, of course including me. Karnal = Prem was with us most of the time, he even treated us a dinner at his place. He was patiently explaining everything to us and was really kind to us. He empathicaly survived our western manners, with much more calm than we accepted the Indian ones.

Prem works in Chennai = Madras and I was honored to his guest for the second time. I went to see Prem`s friend Karthik`s wedding during my last visit, and as it goes, friends` friends become our own friends.
I acclimatized for the first few days, composed of snoozing and tasting local dishes. Prem deciced to teach himself cook. I have to admit he really managed to do that. I was enjoying hanging out in internet cafes in Chennai. However, this activity was not fruitless. You can see updated maps of my track or enlarge the pics full-screen by clicking on them. {now do not complain they`re too small} I have to say, though, writing my diary and blog is giving me real pain. I think it is because I am always among people talking and I am tired of listening to myself. To say nothing of reading.

Other things were funnier. A film about wandering singers of West Bengal, film studios with Vijaye, shopping in a supermarket, visiting the Karthiks, a motorbike trip to a not-really-near lake and buying a new cell phone. Sadly enough, it seems Vodafone has not setup roaming for Tamil Nadu calls. So please do not send your loving messages to my Indian phone number (+91/9962043204).

Chennai (Madras)

I almost forgot an important thing, which took a lot of my precious time here. It is related to motorbike rides. Despite the speed below 60 km/h I had strange thoughts in my head. Topic: death. I kept contemplating about the reason of being here. And if it is worth dying here on the road just because a bunch of suicidal fellas rules this place. There is no life-saving instinct in some of those people. I have to agree with Mirecek. At least 80 % of Indian drivers should hand in their driver`s licences. Karthik, Prem or Hari drive well but the thing is anarchy rules the streets. It does not make any freakin` difference if you put a cop or a scarecrow on the street. Well, the cop is bigger {also easier to corrupt} but usually does not mean a thing.

P.S.: I met a film star, she did not recognize me.

Ahoj Petěrko, i když Ti psaní článků na web činí nemalé potíže, doufám, že zatneš zuby a budeš psát dál! Co bysme jinak četli ve volném čase? Jinak k těm výletům na motorkám: asi to někdy chce opravdu si uvědomit, co jsme, kde jsme a proč tam jsme:-) Nemyslíš, že pak by moc lidí lhalo samo sobě? Proto nám asi život přináší spoustu “zajímavých” podnětů třeba v podobě armády sebevrahů:-( Měj se hezky.
